-Welcome, from the Counselor's office

 A MESSAGE FROM Ms. Wallace

Dear Students, Parents and Teachers,

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. I am excited about being full -time at Kate Shepard this year. I look forward to working with all of you and providing an exciting guidance program. The Guidance and Counseling Program at Kate Shepard has a lot of GREAT things in store for you this school year! Please see the Calendar of Events below to see what great things are being offered through the guidance program. As your school counselor, I would like to work closely with all of you to see that the guidance program meets the needs of all of the students here at Kate Shepard.  I will help to motivate all of our students to reach their highest potential. I am a strong believer that every child can succeed! First and foremost, I desire to help all students develop as a whole and healthy person. My job is to assist your child during the school day. However, I hope you understand that school counselors are not licensed therapists.  If additional assistance is needed, I will be happy to assist you by referring you to outside resources that can provide long-term care.  Remember, all students seen by the counselor must be referred using a referral form. You can find this form on my web page.

As a member of the Guidance Department staff of the Mobile County Public School System, I am responsible for providing a comprehensive guidance program for students grades prek-fifth.  Through our guidance program, I will provide activities to meet the needs of the students, consult with teachers, staff, and parents to enhance the effectiveness in helping our students to succeed. The program emphasizes the six Pillars of Character listed below and it is  designed to assist students in becoming positive and productive citizens at school and in their communities.  Each month a character is explored along with other topics of interest.  I welcome your input and suggestions for topics or events you would like to see implemented through the guidance program.  I am also the test coordinator for Kate Shepard and I will perform other duties specified by my principal.

Please feel free to contact me any time with your questions and concerns. I can be reached by calling the school or by my mcpss email address: lawallac@mcpss.com.  I totally agree with our motto, "Kids Are the Heart of the Issue".

The six pillars are:

  • Responsiblity
  • Respect
  • Trustworthiness
  • Citizenship
  • Caring
  • Fairness
